We accepted our local library’s 30-day reading challenge, so Hudson frequently and excitedly reminds me about the “treasure” at the end. The challenge is to read 20 minutes a day, and Hudson sits extra attentively knowing prizes are at stake. Our little man especially loves these five lately.
- The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson
Okay this book is really one of MY favorites, and Hudson loves it too. It’s super fun to read with different voices about a very clever mouse outsmarting the scariest animals in the woods. With a witty twist at the end, it’s just the best.
- Hopper and Wilson by Maria Van Lieshout
Our friend is a preschool teacher and gifts Hudson the best books. This one is the sweetest story about best friends. Hudson still gets very concerned when Hopper and Wilson are separated on an adventure at sea – I got emotional when I first read it not knowing if they’d find one another again, but they do!
- Marcel the Shell with Shoes On by Jenny Slate
Created by an SNL alum, Marcel is funny and imaginative, and we love the illustrations. We fell in love with the book before ever catching the Youtube video, which if you love the book is a must-watch.
- Bob and Otto by Robert O. Bruel
Oh man this book will always hold a special place in my heart, because it’s the first one Hudson memorized and read back to us. The story of Bob and Otto – a caterpillar and an earthworm and the best of friends. Otto feels so sad when he doesn’t sprout butterfly wings and Bob does – a great lesson in nature and friendship!
- The Pigeon Needs a Bath! by Mo Willems
We love pretty much anything by Mo Willems. With flies swarming, the pigeon refuses a bath despite his serious case of filth, so you know a story mamas can relate to. Hudson cracks up at the silly pigeon, so it’s such a fun read.
My friend Sara Nevels snapped this photo of Hudson reading Hopper and Wilson, which I just love!
